Troubadours of the new song movement with beautiful rich vocals are some of the words listeners have used in describing CantaFlor.
In July, 2006 they competed in the Festival de la Canción in San Francisco, California. Where over 500 participants from all over the United States competed. They won an Excellence in music award for their original song “CantaFlor” in the Romantic Category.
CantaFlor is a musical Duo that performs with acoustic guitars using rich harmonies and performing original music of peace, love and nature. They perform music from Chile, Puerto Rico, Cuba, and Guatemala, Mexico and from many other Latin American Countries.
Whether they are performing live or at a nightclub, giving a concert or giving a lecture they connect with their audiences. They emit love and true passion in every song.
Their Objective in their performance is to increase knowledge/awareness about the values and contributions of folklore traditions in Latin America. To open hearts and minds with traditional music that will reinforce positive attitudes and respect for all cultures.
A Short Biography of Musicians
Carlos Aguilar is from Guatemala and has lived in Sonoma County for over seven years. He studied music at the Conservatory of Music in Guatemala. He won the Latino America Songwriters award for Best original Song in 2001. (Los Niño’s de la Calle) He has recorded 4CDs. He was also a performer in the indigenous group Cuyuy. He is a composer, singer and songwriter. He has his own radio show on Wednesday evenings from 7p.m. to 8p.m. 89.1 F.M. Called “Rincones de Mi Tierra” where he takes you on a musical journey through various countries teaching Folklore traditions.
Margarita Montes has lived in Sonoma County for many years. She studied music at Santa Rosa Junior College, Chico State and Sonoma State University. She is a Singer/songwriter. She is of Puerto Rican heritage and has lived and performed in Germany and Spain as well as here in the U.S. She presently works as an ESL Instructor at Santa Rosa Junior college where she enjoys working with students from all over the world. She is currently working on a CD with “Cantaflor”, la Nueva Trova sharing her love of Latin American culture, music, and poetry.
